Rex James Hunt, the big man with the big heart and the huge public following, has come a long way since his days as a Victorian police officer. Rex was born and bred in Melbourne's bayside area, giving him great access to his two great loves – fishing and football. Rex fished from the time he could dangle a line over Mordialloc pier and kicked a football in the street with his mates until he was snapped up by the Richmond Football Club.

When Rex started his senior football career with the Tigers he was a Victorian Police Cadet, soon graduating to Sergeant. He also rose throughout the ranks in football and fishing, playing in the Richmond 1969 and 1973 premiership sides before crossing to Geelong and then St Kilda. He finished his playing career with his local club, Sandringham, where he was idolised by fans for his goal-kicking prowess. Rex played 202 senior VFL games and 39 for Sandringham.

As a fisherman, Rex won 17 Victorian titles, three Victorian Champion of Champion of Champion titles and a national title. He opened his first fishing tackle store in 1979. Rex's fishing business prospered, thanks partly to his wonderfully ebullient personality.

The 'Bearded Burbler' started calling football on 3AW in 1989 and is now firmly entrenched as the code's most popular radio commentator – and easily the most colourful. "Yyaablettt", "Koutoufidernedes" and "Yibbida Yibbida" are amongst the many contributions Rex has made to the Australian vernacular.

Rex is known around the world because of his hugely successful "Rex Hunt's Fishing World" – for example it has over 15 Million viewers in the UK alone. For over seven years Rex has hosted Channel Seven's "Sportsworld Footy Panel" in addition to other shows such as "Rex Hunt's Great Outdoors" and "I'm Rex Hunt and You're Not".
